So you can imagine a salon getting at least 10 customers in a day and each person paying N500, that is a wooping N5000 daily and N150,000 monthly. The salon business is indeed lucrative if setup in a good location and properly managed. This article details the things you need to know when setting up a barbing salon business.

How To Start A Barbing Salon Business

  1. Write A Business Plan

The first step to take before venturing into starting a salon business will be for you to write a business plan. This business plan should cover in details how you intend to source for fund, how much you will pay an expert barber to teach how to barb that is if you don’t already have the skill, the location you will be situating your shop, how much you will need to furnish your shop and other miscellaneous things.

  1. Get Trained

This is the second step after you have written your detailed business plan. Lots of people feel barbing is all about holding a clipper and cutting someone’s’ hair, if that is what you are thinking, you are wrong. Barbing is a skill.

Get a qualified barber whose barbing styles is known to be classic, negotiate with the barber as to how much he will accept from you depending on the duration you will be spending. Within 3 – 5 months you will have perfected your barbing skill and as time goes on you will become even better. Note that learning how to barb shouldn’t be something you should rush, take your time and learn properly and success will be yours.

  1. Location

For every business, its location matters a lot. You will want to situate your barbing salon in an area that is populated, a residential or commercial area, where you are sure to be easily noticed and attract new customers regularly. In choosing a shop, ensure that it is spacious, well ventilated, and that the surroundings are clean. You wouldn’t want your customers to sit in your shop and perceive foul smell from outside or gutters around you.

  1. Furnishing Your Shop

This is very important in how you present your business and yourself. Ever heard of the word packaging? Furnish your shop to look real good and homely, so that your customers feel very comfortable and at ease whenever they are in your salon. Do not forget to spy on other barbing salons within your vicinity, look at what they have and what you can do to be better than them. See them as your completion and try to do better than them.

  1. Equipment You Will Be Needing

  • Clippers
  • Sterilizing unit
  • Sterilizing agents
  • Combs
  • Brush
  • Powder
  • Mirrors
  • Tables
  • Chairs
  • Radio and Television
  • Generator
  1. Get A Business Name

When it comes to choosing a business name for your barbing salon, ensure that it is easy to spell, pronounce and memorable. You don’t want someone biting their tongue because they want to pronounce your salon name. There is a barbing salon in my area named “Hit Cut”, very short and simple it will be difficult to forget. After choosing a good name for your salon, try to erect a mini sign board with the name on it so as to grab more attention.

  1. Advertise

It is not enough to open a barbing salon and just sit down in the shop waiting for customers to come in. you can create awareness by word of mouth, tell your friends, relations, neighbors etc. and you can ask them to invite their friends too. You could also print pamphlets and distribute to people along the road or around the location where shop is located. You could also attract new customers by lowering your barbing fee for the first one month and called it promotion.

Other Ways To Make Money From Your Barbing Salon

  • Hair dye services
