Money this is one factor on the minds of most people when the think about blogging. Well there are numerous ways you can make money by blogging, either through ad revenue, selling e-books even offering tutorials or other services.

  • Something you really enjoy not something that will bore you in less than 3 months.

  • You could decide to blog about health, about technology, or you could even decide to blog about entrepreneurship and lifestyle just as we do on EntLif

2. Choose A Blogging Platform

If you want to play basketball, you need a basketball court. If you want to blog you definitely need a blogging platform.

There are numerous blogging platforms to choose from. WordPress, Blogger, Wix and Squarespace. WordPress and Blogger are the most popular.

I have heard stories of newbie bloggers choosing the blogger platform because they think that Google will give them special consideration for using the platform.

Some others feel that WordPress platform is quite difficult because they will have tto tweak and modify themes to suit there style.

Well none of these really matters provided you can chun out quality and unique contents.

Personally I use and recommend WordPress.

3. Get A Domain Name And Host

Domain name is simply your website address. For example www.entlif.com. In choosing a domain name, try to use something that is short and memorable that can be easily remembered.

Web hosting this is everything about you blog is stored. A server. There are lots of foreign and local companies where you can buy domain name and host it. I am using a local host from Ghana known as Speedyconnect and since I have been using them I have not experienced any down time, plus their package is unlimited. If you want to start a successful blog in Nigeria then your choice of web hosting is really important.

If you decided to use a WordPress platform, you have two options. Hosted or self-hosted.

  1. Hosted wordpress Blog: this kind of blogs are free and oftern called wordpress.com blog. An example would be “Yourblogname.wordpress.com”.
  2. Self-hosted wordpress blog: Also known as wordpress.org blogs. Cost a little money, gives you much control and increase you earning potentials. Because you will be taken seriously by your visitors.

4. Design Your WordPress Blog Or Get A Web Designer

This is the fun part. Because it is at this point that you give your blog that awesome look that you want it to have. To change the default theme, head to appearance, click on themes and install a free wordpress theme.

Alternatively, you can can buy a premium theme from a premium theme website like Themeforest and buy a theme for $40.

It is advisable to choose something that looks professional, related to your niche and easy to customize.

If this whole thing about design seem complex to you, you could hire a web designer with a proven track record and the designer will do the job and give that taste you have been longing for. Because in order to maintain good reader and ship and also make money you ought to have a website that is user and search engine friendly.

As the saying goes “content is king”. In writing ensure that you are filling a gap. Let your articles be solving a need, provide solutions to possible problems. You could write about existing topics all you need to do is add a new angle to it.
